The hand-splinted sides give it a nice rustic texture that actually looks good sitting out on the counter. I've been using it for fruit and it holds a surprising amount without sagging.
Picked one up for the bread basket on our table and it's become the default for fruit too. The hand-woven splint feels sturdy enough for daily use, and it hasn't snagged or frayed after a few weeks.
